The populare messaging service Line just announced, that it’s user will be able to design stickers and sell them via the Line WebStore to the Line community with already has aproximitaly 400 million members. The new service is called Creators Market.
Competitor Viber is already selling stickers to it’s user, but does not offer it’s user to create them individually. However, Viber got sold a few weeks ago to world famous internet service provider Rakuten. Lines aim is probably not to sell their product, but rather expand their messaging service in the asian pacific region.
Line’s revenue is mostly (60%) generated out of onlinegames they provide. Selling stickers is a rather small part which generates only 20% of the total revenue. So opening the stickers market for designers worldwide will not increase the revenue that much. Because the ratio of the profit between designer and Line will be 50-50. So thats even worse than the Appstore with a ratio of 30-70 and in the Appstore you’ll have a community that’s much bigger than 400 million.
